A 36 x 36 inch mixed media canvas, accumulated over the course of 2023. Paint, denim, thread, fabric, embroidery, and found material from a year of active production. Framed in wood. Made by hand at 1059 Market Street, San Francisco. One of one. Part of the SAFARI series — others exist with buyers and patrons.

CONTEXT
This isn't a painting about a subject. It's an accumulation — every material that passed through the shop over a full year, held to a surface instead of discarded. Nothing was purchased for this canvas. Everything was already there, left behind by the work itself. Students learned on this surface the same way they learn on a jean — hands on material, figuring it out in real time — except what they touched here became part of a painting instead of a garment. This is community in painting form. A year of the shop's actual labor, layered until it became something you hang instead of wear. There are things in this surface you'll find on your own timeline. That's intentional. Some discoveries aren't meant to be handed to you.

STORY
Cut and sew was never only for the body. This proves it. The same hands that build jeans built this — same logic, same material, same belief that waste is a choice and not a fact. But this surface holds something the jeans can't: everyone who passed through 1059 Market that year, student or otherwise, left something in it without necessarily knowing they had. It's not a painting about the shop. It's the shop, compressed into pigment and thread.
